This content was designed for middle and high school teachers. The content consists of 7 topics, an extension and resource page. The navigation was built openly so that you can choose which topics complement your learning goals or you can go through the content entirely. The entire course takes about 7 weeks to complete.

Course Description

Developing Entrepreneurial Mindset

The point of this module is to really explore students’ personal mindset and learn about who entrepreneurs are at the core and how they think too! This module will help students better understand how they approach fears, how they overcome obstacles, and where their strength comes from to be the version of themselves that can set scary goals and still feel like they can achieve them. This is the time where we identify and unmask all of the stuff that keeps us from pursuing the things we imagine in our minds.

Your Corner of the Universe

This module is all about problems, from the biggest to the smallest, and our key question is really going to be “What problems around you need fixing?”. Students might not be the ones to fix every single problem in their corner of the universe, but starting to look is the first step to find a problem they can really fall in love with. The best part is that students will spend some time thinking about what they love, the things they care about, and they will finish with a problem that they can’t wait to solve! The secret here is that you, as the educator, will help students get really excited about problems because, throughout this module, they will learn to recognize problems as opportunities. That’s exactly what entrepreneurs do.

Idea Development

Now that students have a problem that they’re excited to solve, this module will take the problem and the student’s potential solution to develop an idea! By develop, we really mean flesh it out. Figure out the specifics and what it will actually do. By taking the time to figure out what their ideas will really look like, students will take steps to make the idea real. This is where we’re going to breathe life into their ideas, and it should start to take form by the time we’re done!

Learning & Testing

This module will be focused on helping students understand how to design a solution that actually benefits the potential customer. Through interviews, surveys, and learning how to ask good questions, students get the experience of exploring what design thinking feels like. Instead Of designing solutions they like or enjoy, they will create a solution to a problem with a customer or beneficiary in mind. This is all about empathy, putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, and understanding how much agency students have when they aim to make a difference! 

Financials

This module is not about becoming a finance whiz; it’s about understanding which numbers are most important and how we make good choices about pricing about costs to create a simple financial formula that allows the business or organization to sustain! This key formula is all we’ll need: Revenue – Costs = Profit. We will break down these terms and make sure students feel comfortable with how these affect the financial capacity of their idea!

Marketing & Presentation

Students will need a way to talk about them, and here’s where we learn! This module is all about helping students use different communication tools like pitches and presentations to develop a method for communicating their ideas with others. Students will craft an elevator pitch, communicate their mission & vision statements, even develop a business pitch they can present to an audience of all types. Understanding how to craft a story and communicate value is a skill, and students will learn to cultivate it through the content of a problem they have already begun to solve!  

Big Picture & Milestones

This module is all about students! After learning about what entrepreneurship is and how to start bringing an idea to life, it is time for us to give students the space to think about how what they’ve learned might inform what they hope to do in the future. Whether they choose to be astronauts or entrepreneurs, this is space for them to dream big and imagine what the future could look like, given the experiences they’ve had thus far!
